Kathanar trailer out: Jayasurya and Anushka Shetty's film is a grand mythological fantasy

The much-anticipated trailer of Kathanar, headlined by Jayasurya, dropped on Tuesday and delivers on the growing excitement around the film. Drawing inspiration from the legendary tales of Kadamattathu Kathanar, a priest believed to possess mystical powers, the film presents a fresh reimagining that moves beyond earlier familiar adaptations.

What stands out immediately is the scale. The trailer showcases a level of visual richness, world-building, and ambition that is rarely associated with Malayalam cinema, hinting at a project that aims to push boundaries within the industry. Clocking in at 2 minutes and 58 seconds, the trailer offers a glimpse into a fantasy-driven narrative steeped in myth and magic. About Kathanar

Kathanar traces the life of Kadamattathu Kathanar, a legendary 9th-century Christian priest endowed with magical powers. Alongside Jayasurya, the film features Anushka Shetty in a significant role. The trailer also introduces parts of its ensemble cast, including Prabhu Deva, Harish Uthaman, Vineeth, Devika Sanjay, and Nitish Bharadwaj.

The screenplay is penned by Rojin Thomas along with debutant R Ramanand. In addition to directing, Rojin Thomas has also taken charge of editing and VFX direction, indicating a hands-on approach to shaping the film’s visual identity. The technical team includes cinematographer Neil D Cunha, action directors Jungjin Park and Kalai Kingson, music composer Rahul Subrahmanian Unni, and production designer Rajeevan.

Produced by Sree Gokulam Movies, Kathanar is being positioned as one of the most ambitious undertakings in Malayalam cinema to date. While the makers have confirmed a monsoon release window, the exact release date is yet to be announced.
