Honey Singh’s songs ‘glorify alcohol, drugs’, says child protection officer in letter to Pune police

Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has landed in fresh controversy, this time ahead of his upcoming Pune concert. A day after the Delhi High Court ordered the immediate takedown of his old song Volume 1, a new complaint has now been raised over the kind of songs performed at his live shows. According to news agency PTI, Pune district child protection officer Mangesh Jadhav has written to city Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, raising concerns over Honey Singh’s songs and their impact on younger audiences.

As per the report, the letter was sent on Thursday after a complaint was submitted to the Maharashtra Women and Child Development Department by Dr Punditrao Dharenavar from Chandigarh. In the letter, Jadhav reportedly asked the police to ensure that the content of Honey Singh’s concert remains suitable, especially since minors may also be present at the event.

"Honey Singh songs such as One Bottle Down, Char Bottle Vodka, Manali Trance, This Party Getting Hot, Makhana, Goliyan, and Millionaire glorify alcohol, drugs and gun culture. In the Honey Singh live concert, minors (less than 18 years) are allowed. If he sings such songs, children can get a bad impact on their mental health," Jadhav's letter said.

The letter also reportedly referred to Honey Singh’s recent Mumbai concert held on March 28, where it alleged that the rapper used vulgar language on stage. The performance was part of his ongoing My Story tour, where he performed tracks like Millionaire, Desi Kalakar, Mafia Mundeer and Dope Shope. "Therefore, you are advised to ensure the content of the programme remains appropriate, socially responsible and in conformity with child protection principles and statutory safeguards," said Jadhav's letter to the police commissioner.

This latest development comes just a day after the Delhi High Court directed Honey Singh and Badshah to immediately take down Volume 1, a song linked to their Mafia Mundeer phase from 2006–07. The court reportedly observed that the track was grossly vulgar, patently obscene, and derogatory towards women, and ordered its removal from all social media platforms.
