Sonu Nigam on ‘Kahaani Meri’: “The song came to me very organically” - Exclusive

In an exclusive conversation with Mirchi Plus, iconic singer Sonu Nigam opens up about his decades-long musical journey, his admiration for other artists, and the heartfelt process behind his latest release, ‘Kahaani Meri’.

Talking about the making of making of ‘Kahaani Meri’, he said, “The song came to me very organically,” He shared that Kahaani Meri was brought to him by PVNS Rohit, a shy yet deeply spiritual singer he met during Indian Idol back in 2016-17. “I was very impressed by his personality. We connected on a spiritual level”.

Sharing about what he liked about the song, Sonu said, “The best part is, it was not just classically inclined, it was also very commercially viable. It took us two years to revisit and refine the track,” he said. “I kept thinking I could sing it better, and finally, just 2–3 months ago, I felt ready”.

Once the audio was ready, Sonu’s team and family convinced him to shoot a music video in Leh. And as a result, ‘Kahaani Meri’ eventually dropped on his birthday, turning the song into a gift not just for himself, but for all his fans. Watch the full interview below:


Beyond the music, Sonu Nigam also opened up about the beautiful relationships he shares with today’s top artists. “Arijit and I are well connected”, he says with a smile. “We text each other when we like each other’s tracks”. He further shares similar warmth with others like Javed Ali, Vishal Mishra, Shaan, Papon, Shreya Ghoshal, and Sunidhi Chauhan. “I have a good bond with everyone. I treat them with respect, and they do the same.”
