‘Powerhouse’ song out now: Rajinikanth’s Coolie gears up with Anirudh-Arivu track and Breaking Bad twist
Powerhouse from Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ is sung by Anirudh Ravichander and Arivu.
With the excitement surrounding Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth's Coolie at an all time high, the makers of the film dropped the third single of the film at a grand event in Hyderabad on July 23rd. Titled Powerhouse, the song is composed by Anirudh Ravichander with lyrics by Arivu. Anirudh and Arivu have co-sung the song.

Backed by a gritty, animated lyric video, Powerhouse captures the intense mood of the film with stark black-and-white visuals punctuated by bold flashes of red and gold, nodding to the dual themes of gore and gold that run through the narrative. The video depicts a gang of goons descending upon the titular Power House, only to be brutally taken down by Rajinikanth’s character, all under a brooding sky. Watch Powerhouse from Coolie here:

True to Anirudh Ravichander’s pop culture sensibilities, the track even samples Bryan Cranston’s iconic Breaking Bad line, “Say my name” followed by “You’re goddamn right,” adding an extra layer of attitude to the already high-voltage number.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie marks the filmmaker’s next major outing after Leo and features a stacked ensemble: Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Shruthi Haasan all play pivotal roles. Aamir Khan will also be seen in a cameo as a character named Dahaa and has confirmed he’ll be collaborating with Lokesh on another upcoming project.

While some fans have wondered whether Coolie connects to the famous Lokesh Cinematic Universe (which includes hits like Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo), the director has confirmed that this is a standalone film, which means fans can expect something fresh. Produced by Sun Pictures, Coolie has Girish Gangadharan behind the camera and Philomin Raj in charge of editing. Coolie is all set to hit theatres worldwide on August 14.
