Former Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga has now stepped into the world of music. He recently shared a couple of reels on Instagram where he was seen recording a song for his own music album. And he is not the first cricketer to do this. Before him, players like Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Sanjay Manjrekar, and Suresh Raina have also shown their musical side.

In the videos, Malinga has been seen singing in the studio with his own production. While most of his songs are in Sinhala, he has also composed a Hindi track titled ‘Maine Khoja.’ His first Hindi song was ‘Teri Yadein’ released in the year 2024.

After retiring from cricket, Malinga has been focusing on his music production house based in Sri Lanka. He even started a YouTube channel called Lasith Malinga Music Plus on November 22, 2023. The channel has already crossed 6 million views, and it looks like fans are loving this new side of the former fast bowler. Some of his songs include ‘Papu Thurulata Wee,’ ‘Gimhanaya,’ ‘Andurata Sanda Numba’ among others.

Lasith Malinga officially retired from T20 cricket on September 14, 2021, ending a legendary career with 295 matches and 390 wickets in the format. He had already stepped away from Test cricket in 2011 and ODIs in 2019. Earlier in 2021, after being released by the Mumbai Indians, he also announced his retirement from franchise cricket. Known for his unusual sling-arm bowling, deadly yorkers, and cool temperament, Malinga was one of the most feared bowlers in world cricket. And when it came to hat-tricks, he was the master.

Malinga is the only bowler in cricket history to take three ODI hat-tricks. The first came in the 2007 World Cup against South Africa (4/54), followed by another in the 2011 World Cup against Kenya (6/38), and then again in 2011 against Australia in Colombo (3/35).
