Karuppu teaser: Suriya unleashes his dark side in RJ Balaji's film
    A still from Karuppu's teaser.
The teaser for Suriya and RJ Balaji’s much-anticipated Karuppu dropped earlier today, coinciding with Suriya's 50th birthday. Co-starring Trisha Krishnan, the action-packed glimpse teases a layered narrative, a violent streak, and a nostalgic nod to one of Suriya’s biggest hits, Ghajini.

The teaser opens with a voiceover that sets the tone, saying, "This is not a god who calms, but one who demands to be appeased with fire, chillies, to be precise." Suriya then appears in two starkly contrasting avatars. One is Saravanan, a white-clad lawyer who cryptically mentions he has another name. The other is a black-clad figure wielding an aruval (a traditional sickle), radiating menace and rage. The teaser leaves it ambiguous, making you wonder if this is the same man navigating two lives, or are these twin characters with opposing moral compasses. Adding a dash of nostalgia, Suriya’s lawyer avatar even references a popular scene from the 2005 cult hit Ghajini, specifically from the song “Oru Maalai.” Watch Suriya's Karuppu teaser here:

    About Karuppu

Karuppu is helmed by RJ Balaji, who also co-wrote the screenplay along with Ashwin Ravichandran, Rahul Raj, TS Gopi Krishnan, and Karan Aravind Kumar. The film is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures and features a strong ensemble cast, including Trisha, Swasika, Indrans, Yogi Babu, Sshivada, Natty Subramaniam, and Supreeth Reddy.

    Karuppu's Music

The music for Karuppu is composed by Sai Abhyankar and this is one of his many big releases from 2025. For the unversed, A. R. Rahman was originally announced as the composer for the film, which would have marked his fourth collaboration with Suriya after Aayutha Ezhuthu (2004), Sillunu Oru Kaadhal (2006), and 24 (2016). However, Rahman later exited the project for undisclosed reasons, and on December 9, Sai Abhyankkar was revealed as the new composer. While the teaser has sparked speculation and excitement, the official release date for Karuppu is yet to be announced.
