Starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, and directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara has been creating a lot of buzz, not just at the box office, but all over social media. As soon as it became a hit, the internet was flooded with emotional reels: people sobbing uncontrollably, showing up to theatres with IV drips, even fainting after the film ended. While some netizens thought these reactions were very dramatic, others felt the emotions were completely justified. Now, in a recent interview, composer Tanishk Bagchi has spoken up in support of the audience, saying their reactions come from a real place.

While speaking to News18, Tanishk said, “When I watched the film, I also cried. But to be honest, I don’t know why I cried. I’ve watched so many emotional films even from the West. But the music in this film haunts you. It gives you the feeling that you’ve lost someone, that you aren’t able to find the one ya phir koi juda hua hai par phir bhi aapke paas nahi hai. Saiyaara ka jo title track hai woh ek adbhut sa feeling deta hai”. (The title track of Saiyaara gives you a strange, haunting feeling).

Talking about the making of the title track, Tanishk recalled what director Mohit Suri had asked of him. He shared that Mohit wanted the song to bring out a very specific emotion, something that would instantly take people back to a defining moment in their own lives. He compared it to the way a certain smell can suddenly remind you of someone special’s perfume, it might be a small but powerful trigger of memory and emotion.

Tanishk said that the feeling Mohit was aiming for was nostalgia, and it’s not something that can be just created through technique. “I think it’s a very deep feeling. There’s no technique to introduce such a feeling into a song. It only happens if you’ve lived a special moment. All of us have lived our pasts, which got reflected into the song, and that’s why it connected with the audience", he further added.
