Grammy 2025 nominations: Six Indian musicians shine on the global stage

Anoushka Shankar, the globally acclaimed sitarist, singer-songwriter, and composer, is also nominated in the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category for her album Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn. Joining Shankar and Kej in this category are Warriors of Light by Indian-origin artist Radhika Vekaria and Triveni, a collaboration by Chandrika Tandon, flautist Wouter Kellerman, and cellist Eru Matsumoto. Tandon, an entrepreneur and artist, is known for integrating Indian classical influences into Western music, and her nomination here is a testament to her unique musical vision.
Shankar’s nominations extend further this year with a second Grammy nod in the Best Global Music Performance category for her collaboration with British musician Jacob Collier on A Rock Somewhere. This track also features Varijashree Venugopal, who is celebrated not only for her solo accomplishments but also for her significant contributions to Break of Dawn.
Mumbai-born musician Noshir Mody has earned his first Grammy nomination, marking an exciting milestone in his career. He is featured in the Best Global Music Performance category for his contribution to the song Kashira by Masa Takumi, alongside collaborators Ron Korb and Dale Edward Chung.
