Music maestro A R Rahman believes that Indian artists are finally receiving the global recognition they have long deserved. From winning Grammy Awards to performing at renowned international music festivals like Coachella, Rahman said it is a “great time” for musicians.

The two-time Grammy Award winner, who is currently preparing for his much-anticipated 'The Wonderment Tour,' reflected on the industry's growing stature. “Music as an industry was never recognised. When you say, 'Oh, my son is a singer,' people are like, 'But what does he do?' This is still happening," Rahman said in an interview with PTI.

Highlighting the rise of independent Indian acts on international platforms, A. R. Rahman added, “Now, when all these things are happening, there are so many pockets of independent bands making it to Coachella... This is one of my dreams that should happen, and it's happening. People are winning Grammys.”

Earlier this year, Indian-American vocalist Chandrika Tandon won a Grammy in the Best New Age Album category for 'Triveni' at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. In another milestone, rapper Hanumankind, known for his track "Big Dawgs," made his debut at Coachella 2025, marking an important step for Indian hip-hop on the global stage.

Rahman added, “India has that culturally. Now, the important thing is how much we can spread it out in the world, which is dominated by Western culture. Because people today are looking at an alternate culture, and if we pull up our stuff, we have an option to be liked by everyone. There are already great fans in Russia and Japan...”
