Singer Chinmayi Sripaada recently found herself at the centre of an online exchange after she strongly called out the mobbing of actor Nidhhi Agerwal at a public event. Reacting to visuals from the incident, Chinmayi had condemned the behaviour of the crowd, writing, “Pack of men behaving worse than hyenas,” in a post that quickly gained attention.

Alongside her response, the singer also shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp message that contained abusive language describing a toxic relationship between a boy and a girl. Drawing attention to the red flags in the message, Chinmayi wrote, “If your partner speaks like this to you, leave,” underlining her stance against verbal abuse and unhealthy relationships.

However, her comments drew criticism from another user who quote-tweeted her post, accusing Chinmayi of speaking up only when men were involved in such incidents. The user dismissed her activism, telling her to focus on her profession and adding, “Feminism ain't a job!!” followed by a clown emoticon.

Chinmayi responded firmly, stating, “I have a fantastic life and won an award only yesterday for a Malayalam song. I am only talking about abusers and it is always the greatest expose when men rant each time I talk about rapists molesters abusers child sex offenders and abuse ME instead of calling out one of your abuser buddies.” She further remarked that such reactions reflected “low literacy and education.”

As the exchange continued, the user insisted that Chinmayi only called out men and not women when wrongdoing occurred. Countering this, she replied, “I didn't even see one woman molesting Nidhi yesterday.” The argument then shifted to claims that male bodyguards had helped keep Nidhhi safe, with the user accusing Chinmayi of “projecting every man as an evil.”

Unconvinced, Chinmayi drew a parallel with a past incident, writing, “This is like the India Gate Molesting case. One male photographer decided to take proof of that girl being molested by the mob. Men harangued and criticised the man asking why he didn’t help her,” referring to the scrutiny faced by those who document such assaults rather than the perpetrators themselves.
