Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is easily one of the most talked-about upcoming films in Indian cinema right now. Ever since the makers unveiled the first teaser of the Ranbir Kapoor-led epic, excitement around the project has only grown stronger. Now, the film is back in the headlines, this time because of A.R. Rahman’s reported fee.

The Oscar-winning composer, who is creating the music for the ambitious mythological drama, is said to have charged a massive ₹30 crore for the film. And if reports are to be believed, that may not be the only part of his deal. According to recent reports, AR Rahman is also expected to receive a share in the film’s profits, making it one of the biggest music deals in Indian cinema in recent times.

What makes the soundtrack even more exciting is the fact that Rahman is reportedly collaborating with Hans Zimmer for the music of the two-part epic. The combination of two globally celebrated composers has already sparked huge curiosity among film and music lovers.

As per Telugu Cinema reports, Rahman usually charges somewhere between ₹12 crore and ₹15 crore per film. This makes his reported remuneration for Ramayana significantly higher than his usual fee. Reports also suggest that his payment for the Telugu film Peddi is much lower in comparison.

Given the scale of Ramayana, the reported figure does not come as a complete surprise. The film is being mounted on a grand level and is already being described as one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. With a project of this size, having a composer like Rahman on board only adds to its appeal.
