Miley Cyrus drops Younger You, a heartfelt tribute to her Hannah Montana days

Miley Cyrus is getting personal and nostalgic with her latest song, Younger You, which was released on March 27 as part of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special. The new track feels like a heartfelt conversation between Miley and her younger self, as she reflects on growing up, fame, and everything that has changed over the years.

With a soft country-inspired sound, Younger You carries an emotional tone throughout. In the song, Miley Cyrus seems to speak directly to the younger version of herself, touching on the distance that time can create. “Somewhere along the way, we lost touch / We used to be so happy just because / I know you had to go eventually / But don’t forget about me, don’t forget about me, no," she sings in the chorus.

Younger You’s music video adds even more emotion to the release. It mixes present-day visuals of Miley driving through Hollywood with older footage from her early years in the spotlight. The video also includes callbacks to Hannah Montana: The Movie, including a touching moment where she holds her iconic pink makeup case.

Along with scenes from the anniversary special, the video beautifully ties together Miley’s past and present. In one of the moments of the video, two versions of Miley are seen walking away together as she sings, “I know your story isn’t done, but do you love who you’ve become?"

Sharing the song on Instagram, Miley also wrote a heartfelt message for fans, “Younger me has loved celebrating 20 years of Hannah Montana with you. This song is yours as a thank you for the life we’ve grown through together. I love you always."


At the premiere of the anniversary special, Miley also reflected on what she would say to her younger self if she could go back in time. Speaking to PEOPLE, she said she would remind herself to “enjoy and have fun because [filming the show is] a lot of work," before adding, “But it’s also worth it."
