On Devi Sri Prasad’s birthday, we celebrate the love songs that touched our hearts

Devi Sri Prasad is a force to reckon with in Indian music. At just 19 years old, DSP, as he is fondly known, made his big leap into films with his debut as a composer for the Telugu movie Devi. What followed was a meteoric rise. By 2001, he delivered his first major breakthrough with the Anandam soundtrack, an album which would establish him as a rising force in Telugu music. Since then, DSP has composed for over 100 films, becoming one of South India's most loved and celebrated music directors.

Today, as the music director celebrates his birthday, we look back at some of DSP’s most unforgettable romantic hits, the songs that made us smile, cry, dream, and fall in love.

1) Feel My Love - Arya

One of the earliest hits in DSP's career has to be this timeless classic from Arya that featured Allu Arjun. The track is sung by KK and Clinton Cerejo and continues to be every millennial's favourite.


2) Chandrullo Unde - Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana

Chandrullo Unde is another one of DSP's classics from yesteryear that captured the essence of first glance and the shy smiles when in love. DSP’s melody, along with Siddharth and Trisha's cute onscreen chemistry, are the stars of the track.

3) Srivalli - Pushpa

Possibly one of DSP’s biggest pan-India love songs, Srivalli became a cultural phenomenon. With Sid Sriram’s haunting voice and minimalistic yet powerful instrumentation, this song proved that DSP still knows exactly how to touch hearts across generations.


4) Appudo Ippudo - Bommarilu

Genelia, Jayam Ravi and this song - one that remains etched in our hearts. Bommarilu was one of the biggest hits of its time and, needless to mention, the soundtrack of the film, especially the romantic number Appudo Ippudo played a huge role in it.

5) Mellaga - Varsham

Rain-soaked romance, whispered promises, and music that lingers like petrichor. Mellaga is everything you want love to be!

6) Kanmoodi Thirakumbothu - Sachein

This song’s for that tender moment when love is so close, yet out of reach. With its beautiful rhythm and soft instrumentation, DSP captures captures silent conversation between two hearts in this Vijay-Genelia song.


7) Neela Vaanam - Manmadan Ambu

This one’s for the aching kind of love and is beautifully sung by Kamal Haasan and Priya Himesh. The one that stirs up old memories and stings just a little. With moody layers and haunting vocals, DSP gives sorrow a strangely beautiful tune.

8) Bujji Thalli - Thandel

Fresh and full of feeling, this recent gem shows how DSP still touches the core of emotion. Bujji Thalli feels like home or rather a hug in musical form.


9) Yentha Sakkagunnave - Rangasthalam

Love, when set to folk, hits different. This song, sung by DSP himself, feels like it grew straight from the soil. Adding to it, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Ram Charan's onscreen chemistry makes it an unforgettable one.
