Alka Yagnik reacts to Arijit Singh’s decision to quit from playback: ‘It’s his choice’.
When Arijit Singh announced earlier this year that he was stepping away from playback singing, it came as a shock to many. Fans across age groups were left emotional, and social media was quickly filled with reactions, tributes, and messages asking him to reconsider. Now, veteran singer Alka Yagnik has reacted to Arijit’s decision and shared her thoughts on his unexpected move.

In a recent interview with NDTV, Alka Yagnik said she sees it as a personal decision and believes it should be respected. “It’s his choice. Whatever he wants to do, it’s his choice. I would say a very personal choice."

Alka and Arijit Singh may not have worked together often, but the one song they did collaborate on remains one of the most loved tracks of the last decade, Agar Tum Saath Ho from Tamasha. The song, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, struck a deep emotional chord with listeners and continues to be a favourite even today. It was composed by A.R. Rahman and written by Irshad Kamil.

While speaking about the song, Alka also shared a memory from the recording process and recalled how it all came together in the studio. “Arijit was there in the studio. But A.R. Rahman wasn’t, he was in Los Angeles at the time. That’s how we recorded it."

    Arijit Singh’s announcement

On January 27, Arijit took to social media to reveal that he would not be taking up any new playback singing assignments. In his note, he shared that he wanted to shift his focus towards independent music and step away from film playback for the time being.
